The IOC’s International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) in Ostend, Belgium, provides training for marine information specialists, particularly from developing countries. The OceanTeacher Global Academy is a training system for ocean data managers, marine information managers and marine researchers who wish to learn how to manage or use oceanographic data and information. Since 2005 this comprehensive online Learning Management System, in combination with classroom training, has trained nearly 2000 students from 120 countries.
Since 2015 a network of Regional Training Centres (RTCs) has been using advanced information technology and multilingual training resources to deliver training courses in a range of topics for the benefit of Member States. For example, China’s Regional Training and Research Centre on the role of ocean dynamics in climate have now benefited over 260 young scientists from almost 33 countries.
