The 2017 Global Ocean Science Report has helped global decision-makers to understand where national marine scientific capacities and investment can be strengthened through increased international cooperation. This report provides the first collective attempt to quantify the key elements of ocean science at the national, regional and global scales, including scientific workforce, infrastructure and publications. The report offers a global record of where ocean science is conducted and where greater investment is needed to support sustainable ocean management in the framework of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The report argues there is an urgent need for countries to organize their national inventories on ocean science capacity so they know exactly what investment should be going where to turn scientific development into sustainable growth. The full Report, in English, as well as the Executive Summary, in the six official UN languages, are available online here.
The GOSR2020 (Second edition of Global Ocean Science Report) will be launched in the last quarter of 2020.
